The hardest part about getting started on a painting is ...getting started. I hear so many people tell me about the traumatic event in their lives that made them stop doing art. I’m here to tell you to ignore those bad experiences if you’ve had them and give it a go again. Lots of us don’t know Where to start, How to start or When to start. We want to wait till everything is in place and the timing is right. Some of us wait for the planets to line up, the weather to get right, or the wind to change direction. Whatever it is that is keeping you from getting started, why don’t you get over it by taking action now. How about starting a drawing, or a painting, or even a coloring book. See how good it feels to let your inner artist out!

Therapeutic Horsemanship of Hawaii - (back to top)

For many years my friend Dana Vennen has lead Therapeutic Horsemanship of Hawaii (THH), one of the nations best equestrian programs, in serving people by allowing them to work with horses and nature in the beautiful Waimanalo Polo field. Many of THH’s clients have physical or other conditions that are miraculously helped by riding and interacting with horses. THH also offers riding lessons to the community at large. All ages and skill levels can benefit from learning to work with horses. I am honored to have been a clowning help with their annual Rodeo’s. Get off your butt and go riding with Dana Vennen and THH. It seems that every day somebody has to tell me “I’m so and so and I can’t even draw stick figures! I had such a bad experience in art as a kid so I never did it again!

Institute of Intensive English Art Day - (back to top)

For the third year in a Row the Institute of Intensive English kids came to Waimanalo to learn art and help paint an Aloha mural and our famous Naturally Hawaiian Horse, Kimo. There were over sixty non-English speaking kids here at once but no worry, Art is the universal language. We had all star teachers Like Muralist Jeff Pagay and Retired Honolulu Police Sketch Artist Joe Aragon on hand to choreograph and entertain them.

Luckily professional photographer Fernando Herzer was having lunch at Sweet Home Waimanalo and took this photo.

We had a wonderful time at Mazerella Gallery in Kapa’a. Mahalo to my old and new friends who came to paint a mini painting with me. Mahalo to Ron Wiley of KONG Radio and Marilyn Miller and the others who put on such a fine show.
