Here comes Christmas and ready or not, it'll be a wild one. I had a good time decorating the Naturally Hawaiian Christmas horse with the help of some Waimanalo families. I am honored to be asked to be the Grand Marshall of the Waimanalo Christmas Parade this Saturday, December 10. It'll be good to ride a horse through Waimanalo again.

|  Art Tip - Disappearing Frog Technique - This one will go down as one of my most advanced techniques ever. While painting Hanalei Tide I finally came to the part of doing the rainbow.
I was pensive as I know well the difficulty involved with painting a transparent rainbow with a paintbrush. I know why most artists fail at this subject. I spent most of the day getting my colors just right and laying in the rainbow. When I was done, the thing I was worried about had happened. The rainbow was too intense. The colors were too strong.
As I stood there deciding whether or not to wipe off the whole day’s work, a memory came to me…
When I was a senior in high school I had an entire restroom to do a painting in. It was an oil painting with a girl and in her hand was a frog. The girl was already dry and one day I painted the frog she was holding. The frog took all day. The next day I returned to the painting only to find the frog had all but disappeared. My friends and I were baffled. We did not smoke that much! Looking closely I could see just a slight trace of the frog. It was like the space guys had taken it. I stared at the scene for many minutes until I noticed that there was an opened jar of paint thinner about a foot below the frog. Overnight the paint thinner had evaporated and “lifted my frog away.”
I opened a jar of Gamsol, a slow evaporating paint thinner, and placed it under my wet rainbow over night. In the morning my rainbow had dissipated to just the right transparency. The Disappearing Frog Technique saved my rainbow.

Waimanalo Christmas Parade -12/10/2011 - 9am-11am - When Andrew Jamila, of the Waimanalo Construction Coalition, called me and said "Patrick, we'd like you to be the Grand Marshall for the Christmas parade this year," I thought: "Heck, you gotta be kidding!" Then he said I could be on horseback and I said okay. I love to ride horses through Waimanalo!
See you at the parade and come to Sweet Home Waimanalo during the parade and then afterward to eat lunch and meet Mom and I and get some gifts autographed.
