Another glorious winter has passed and now we prepare for summer Fun!
It's been a busy time for creative events as the winter Kai Ocean Art Show finished in March and I now have several new paintings available as gicle'e and matted prints. To celebrate my new releases, I have a special 20% off sale! (Expires 7/1/2017).
The next KAI show will be at the Moana Surfrider Hotel in Waikiki from July 1-16.
I'll be heading to Tennessee to paint a very famous Eagle named Challenger at the American Eagle foundation at Pigeon Forge. I'll hold painting workshops there on June 18 for my Friends in Knoxville.
The Nature Painting Mastery Online Video courses are going strong and many of you are participating in these inexpensive painting videos. The last of the 26 lessons are almost complete so it's a great time to get the course and see how I paint everything from sunsets to sea turtles.
Another new release is a commission done for a couple in the Netherlands of their Eclectus Parrots. "Eclectus Falls" is reminiscent of the "Hidden Valley" style of realism I did regularly when I was a wildlife ranger.
Enjoy a special Waimanalo Artist Retreat episode of our Painting In Paradise TV Show and of course, our Favorite Photos.
With Aloha from me,

Hawaii Art Tip Video - ART TIP- EFFICIENCY IS KING - The best results usually occur with the least effort. Do you ever wonder why certain artist can get huge amounts of money for art that seems to be done with just a few strokes? It's because within those strokes are years of learning, experience and confidence. The confidence in these artists strokes are a result of constantly striving for improvement. For example a person not used to handling a pencil will take many short, timid strokes to draw a circle, while a person who's done it many times will swiftly scribe a great circle in a fluent gesture in on tenth the time. If you were in the market to buy a circle, which one would you get?
So STRIVE FOR EFFICIENCY. It's beautiful and it saves you time in your life to enjoy this beautiful world. I am a big advocate of not wasting time on Earth. Why would you work harder to make something look worse? We're only here for a short time. If we can use our time efficiently we can experience more. That is why I encourage you to strive to get the best results with the least effort. Besides, That's what looks the best. The world will love you for it!

Painting "Challenger" at American Eagle Foundation, Tennessee -
I'll soon be off to Knoxville, Tennessee June 19-25 to spend some time with Al Cecere and Challenger at the American Eagle Foundation. Challenger flies free at special major events over vast stadiums and even flew at the Hawaii State Capital some years ago. I met these two years ago and have been waiting to paint Challenger ever since. They have done so much for the recovery of the Bald Eagle and the environment. Over the next year I will be working on a life-sized painting of Challenger.

Mahalo to all the community members who participated and gave kind words of support to the mural we did on the Hawi Post Office wall.
Special Mahalo to super teacher Fern White and Principal Janette Snelling of Kohala High School, Tommy Mehau for helping from start to end, Bill who manages the center, The Kohala Village Hub and The people who work and live in Kohala.
As one rolls down the hill into historic Hawi town the wind blows the sugar cane into a flowing design featuring the golden color of the post office wall.
Field workers harvest sugar cane as a pre harvest cane fire roars in the distance.
The iconic smoke chimney from the Hawi Mill has been resurrected in this mural after it fell during the earthquake of 2006.
A section of the Kohala ditch represents the water that brought life to the area.
A pacific Jungle fowl rooster, that was important to many of the plantation cultures, struts across the same lawn as does a native 'Alae ke'oke'o bird and her chicks.
The inaugural locomotive "Kinau" runs across the trestles caring passengers in its cars called "Kalakaua".
The famed cowboys and cowgirls of Kohala come up on a steer as an 'Io or Hawaiian hawk soars above Pololu Valley, a few miles from the birthplace of Kamehameha the great. In the foreground a pair of mules from the stock that helped build the Kohala ditch system.

Fernando Rueda Izagirre - I got today the matted prints. I have no words to express my feelings... I just order another two sets of prints. They will also be for Kelea and Mikel and I will be very grateful if you could also personalize these prints for them. I will frame all the matted prints and give them to the kids for Christmas (I have to hide them until then!). I'm sure they will love them so much. Read more of this testimonial & view image
