Our first artist retreat went down in history and it was full of Memories, Celebrities and Art. Mahalo to our special friends artist John Pitre who shared with us a movie he created and his artistic insights,, photographer Kim Taylor Reece who painted with us and taught us about his art and the values of dark and light composition that have made his photography so successful. Musician Kawika Kahiapo played his famous songs for us as we painted , and Manu Mook performed our conch shell opening prayers and wove coconut headbands for each of us. We got a special visit from Scotty Reese Moniz, and the Waimanalo Canoe club did a "paddle by" to accent a beautiful sunset.

Mike Muller gave au a wonderful ride on his trimaran canoe around Manana (Rabbit Island) while John Pitre visited the canoe with his helicopter. These guys and their toys! We had lots of hospitality help from friends Tammi Onaha, Kim Mah, and Marylou Foley of the Waikiki Aquarium.

We were privileged to have our participants Zilka Terentez from Panama, Julie Shrum Magee from California, Gail Berenge and Cynthia Bartlett from Kailua, Oahu, Margarette Kanealii from Waimea, Big Island, Mauna Kea Wilson of Waimanalo who cooked our ono dinners of fish and local favorites, and Marilyn Potter for taking all those wonderfully beautiful photos of the weekend.

It all concluded on Superbowl Sunday as the Patriots came from behind to beat the Chargers while some of us were still painting.

Our Gilligan's Island Castaway Party helped in concluding our weekend as the castaways enjoyed a final meal, friendship jokes and companionship. There was the Skipper, Gilligan, Ginger and Mary Ann, Mary Ann with amnesia thinking she was Ginger, The professor, the Howell's and more. We even got a visit by Elvis! Aka Jeff Pagay.

Also Mahalo to Evern, Lyndsey , Scott and Scotty Wong for helping us video record the weekend and turn it into an episode of Painting In Paradise that will air for a month starting April 19 at 6:30pm on OC16TV.
