The early morning sun warms the floor of Hanalei Valley on the north shore of Kauai. Hawaiian Black-Necked Stilts known as Ae'o look for food in a recently harvested taro patch. Stilts and other native water birds such as Hawaiian ducks, coots, herons and gallinules depend largely on these man made agricultural terraces for food and nesting habitat. | |||
