The Hawaiian Crow is called 'Alala in Hawaiian. Literally 'Alala means
"to cry out loud." Unlike most crows the 'Alala is very rare and critically endangered of becoming extinct. There are only a few dozen of them left; most of which are in a captive breeding facility in Olinda, Maui. The 'Alala once inhabited all the main Hawaiian Islands and is now only found on the Big Island of Hawaii. The 'Alala is an intelligent bird and in ancient times was sometimes kept as a pet.
