The Pueo, or Hawaiian Owl, is a subspecies of the short-eared owl. It inhabits all of the main Hawaiian Islands and occasionally islands of the northwest Hawaiian chain. It is often seen in trees or on telephone poles in search of prey. The Pueo's meals include rodents, birds, and other small animals. The Hawaiians had much respect for the Pueo and many revered it as a family guardian or 'aumakua. This is a signed print of a painting entitled “Lord of the Evening Sky” the pueo perches on a branch near the bright red seedpods of the native aalii shrub. | |||
