This painting by Patrick Ching, was done for the Conservation Council for Hawaii (CCH). It depicts some of the many special aspects of the magnificent volcano which rises nearly 14,000 feet above the sea. Mauna Kea literally means White Mountain because of its summit which is often under snow. Some of the elements featured in this painting are Lake Waiau and its adz quarry up at 10,000 ft. elevation, the Palila bird on its food source, the Mamane tree, rare Mauna Kea silverswords and other unique plants and animals. More information is available on the CCH poster featuring this painting at www.conservation-hawaii.org. | |||
